September 4-5

Parents,

Please be sure to watch the introduction video that is linked to the left!

Please pray the Angel of God prayer with your little ones as you tuck them into bed at night, say grace before meals together (beginning with the Sign of the Cross), and get your family to Mass.  This is the biggest prayer yet.
If you are not able to
physically attend due to health concerns, please join the Mass virtually via our Facebook page! https://www.facebook.com/SsCosmasandDamian

Throughout this whole month, help your child to notice and watch things in nature…go outside together when it gets dark and look at the stars, stop and smell the flowers, watch the squirrels, etc., help him/her to be amazed!

Week 2: Creation

Watch

Pray

Practice prayers, including Sign of the Cross, Our Father, and participating in the Holy Mass.

Main Ideas

Note the two themes of creation story:

  1. Creation of the world – inspires wonder and awe of God, the Creator.
    • All that God creates is Good!
    • All that creation is, God is even more!
    • Enjoying and participating in God’s created things should lead us to the Creator himself. Be sure to say prayers of thanksgiving to God for all of the wonderful things God created, including you!
  2. Temptation and sin enter into creation, and man falls hard.

Week 3: The Goodness of Creation

Main Ideas

  • Joy, peace, and happiness in this lifetime is a foretaste of heaven. (TOB 1)
  • All creation is “sacramental” because God is revealed through it.

Watch

First, watch this video trailer from formed.org.

Did you know? God created the laws of nature and science!! Parents and older students may want to watch the whole video. Younger students may be interested in pre-selected segments. Parents’ choice!

Ponder

You are part of all of this! How do you fit in? What is your role/your purpose in this world?

Nothing to submit this week!

Get Outside!

Take a walk in the park, visit the zoo, or just sit quietly in your own yard or neighborhood enjoying nature.  Don’t just take a quick glance and “see” things. Take time to really notice the details of how nature works in patterns; how birds, insects, clouds, and trees seem to move together as if under the movement of a single beautiful song. If you go to the zoo or a park, really take time to watch the animals for a while, and ponder how they are made, how they move, and what activities they are engaged in as you watch. Observe everything natural!

Week 5: Did Adam and Eve Work in the Garden, or Was Work the Punishment for Sin Afterwards?

Main Ideas

  • Adam tended the garden from the beginning! It was a privilege – not a punishment!
  • There are 7 prominent themes that the Catholic Church teaches about social justice in our world. These are called Catholic Social Justice teachings.
  • Did you know?? Many popes have written quite a lot about social justice for workers, for the underprivileged, for families, human rights, and even for our natural world.
  • God has entrusted human beings to take care of this beautiful world. How can you help?

Plan and Do

This week we want you to think of five ways that you can help take care of our natural world. Think about plants, animals, litter, water, other natural resources, etc. Be creative, but go where your heart leads you! Submit your plan here

You don’t have to complete  it this week – just have a plan, and begin it! You will find that participating in caring for creation with the Creator is quite rewarding! Say a prayer asking God for his attention in areas that are too big for you to handle right now. You can ask God to awaken other people to see those needs and start working on them. Don’t forget to thank God for the privilege of working alongside Him!

Pray

Practice prayers, including:
     ~The Sign of the Cross
     ~Our Father
     ~Participating in Holy Mass
and others, as instructed using the Flip Book we’ve given you.
