First Reconciliation and Holy Eucharist

Contact: Joni Smith

Preparation for these sacraments is normally done in the second grade, and includes both children and parents in monthly formation sessions to prepare children and families not only for the child’s first reception of these sacraments, but rather, for a lifetime filled with God’s grace.  Children must also be registered and participating in either the parish faith formation program or a Catholic day school. Sacramental preparation for both parish and Catholic school students takes place at the student’s home parish and the celebration of the sacraments will be scheduled in the parish as well.

At Ss. Cosmas & Damian, First Reconciliations usually take place on a scheduled Saturday in January, in the context of a communal reconciliation service (children will still meet with a priest one-to-one).  First Communions are normally celebrated in late April or early May.  These dates may be found on the current sacramental prep calendar, and will be shared at the first class.

Parents of older children who have not yet been prepared or celebrated these sacraments are encouraged to contact us so that we can discuss how we can work together to help your child receive these sacraments at the earliest possible time.
