Faith Formation

At the moment we baptize our children, we make a solemn promise to educate our children in the
Catholic Faith. While this responsibility primarily lies with the parents, your parish is here to help.

Our parish offers Faith Formation classes from pre-school through high school. To register your child for
Faith Formation classes, click here.

If you feel God is calling you to become a teacher or catechist of the faith, please communicate with Joni
Smith, our director of the parish Faith Formation program.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE PROGRAM
From pre-school to second grade, we focus on learning our prayers, being introduced to some of the
basic Bible stories, and an age-appropriate relationship with Christ. First Communion classes will be
taught parallel to the Faith Formation classes. In other words, your child will need to register for both
Faith Formation and First Communion Preparation. To register for First Communion preparation, click
here.

From third to eight grade, the students are introduced to the life, history, theology, and spirituality of
the Catholic Faith. This will include a deepening of the meaning of prayer and the examples of the
Saints.

In high school, the style of teaching will be using videos and group discussions. We will focus on
questions of doubt, morality, Catholic identity, and a personal relationship with Christ.

Confirmation preparation will be offered parallel to the Faith Formation classes. In other words, your
child will need to register both in Faith Formation and in Confirmation Preparation. To register for
Confirmation Preparation, click here.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
When does the parish offer Faith Formation Classes? Click here to see this schedule of classes.

How much does it cost to register my child in Faith Formation? There is a $50 registration fee per family. Tuition for 1 student is $80, for 2 students is $140, and 3 or more is $195. Registration fee is waived if students are registered before August 1.

How do I become a teacher for Faith Formation or Sacramental Preparation? Please contact Joni Smith,
the parish Director of Faith Formation, for the details.

Is homeschooling an option for Faith Formation? Yes. Please contact Joni Smith, our parish Director of
Faith Formation, to make arrangements.

What if my child attends a Catholic School? The Diocese of Cleveland is asking families to form a deeper
connection with their home parishes through preparing for the Sacraments together. Because the
Catholic Schools teach the Catholic Faith to the children, they would not be required to go to Faith
Formation classes. However, for First Communion Preparation and Confirmation Preparation, they will
be required to attend those classes at the parish. To see the schedule of the required classes for
Sacramental Preparation, click here.

Why does the parish require both Faith Formation Classes and First Communion Classes or Confirmation
Classes? Do they not receive the necessary information at one or the other classes? The standards are
set by the Diocese of Cleveland to insure that our children are properly prepared, not only to receive the
Sacraments, but to then understand their identity as a Catholic. Studies have shown that the previous
minimum requirements were not effective in developing properly committed disciples that could
explain and defend their Catholic Faith. Therefore, the bishop has implemented this methology.
